The really hard part will be getting a doc to actually go along with the idea.

In my experience/opinion, women docs might go for it more quickly than men docs, particularly in the 40+ age bracket.

Then, when you think of the usual front and back-office folks, how many of them would be willing/able to participate in vid shoot + upload? The cast of characters I see working in most doc's offices might be a big resistance point.

The holy grail here would be facilitating TWO-WAY conversations between docs and patients. Now THAT would be a killer app ;)

Thanks for the feedback and great question! Small practices might have the most to gain since they are the most sensitive to the time argument. The trick is having some help.

Below is an off the cuff thought, what do you think?

You engage, for instance, the person working the check out desk who is not busy 100% of the time - have them stick a $100 flip camera in a docs face as they are walking in the door from lunch and say "quick, what are your top three tips for patients with XYZ?"

Takes 30 seconds to record, a minute to post and boom its done. Follow up questions from patients are just as easy. You stop the doc b/t patients and say "you know that video? Someone wants to know about ABC". You get a 140 character reply and then suggest if they want to know more that they schedule an appointment.

I can see this working in a large hospital/health system setting, but how do you get it rolling in smaller settings, like, f'rinstance, a family practice or peds clinic? That's where you'd get the biggest "no time" push-back from all players. Patients would LOVE it, tho.

Great post - plenty of grist for my mill!

Hey, thanks for the mention! But even more important, thanks for making the point about writing and editing being: 1) work; and 2) hard work. Tru dat.

Want to point out that the things you suggest are not only time-efficient and easy to accomplish, but they also nicely accommodate those who have an auditory-visual learning style.
